The selection

Our secret: a rustic chicken breed adapted to this region.
Our Red Label farm poultry come from a rustic breed with a very slow growth, commonly called “bare neck”. The growth of this chicken is two times slower than a regular poultry.
Perfectly adapted to the climate of the South-West of France, the “bare neck” distinguishes itself through its light plumage, fine skin, delicate and slightly marbled flesh.

Corn, generally produced by our breeders, represents 80% of our chickens feed intake. Our chickens have a 100% plant-based feed. They mainly eat cereals, including and corn, wheat and soybean locally produced by our producers in the South-West of France. In order to ensure the highest quality for our chickens, they are raised with GMO-free feed (<0.9%).

The chickens are produced within a 100% integrated chain. Thus, the quality is controlled from the hatchery to the site of preparation, including breeding.

Thanks to this breeding and this regionally produced feed, eating POULET D’ICI poultry allows to reduce the environmental impact and to contribute to local employment!

It all started in 1965, with the achievement of the first Red Label of the history! A handful of pioneering breeders had created a unique and unparalleled way of breeding in the Landes. Specialist of the Red Label in France, St SERVER offers with its poultry a typical taste, unlike any other, largely related to the quality of their environment in the South-West of France and of their feed.

We are proud to have, among our St SEVER poultry breeders, the creators of the first Red Label in history, a guarantee of the unique quality of our poultry. This first Red Label (01.65) was indeed created 1965 for the yellow farm chicken from the Landes, and the St SEVER poultry breeders have been perpetuating the tradition since.

“Writing what we do, doing what we write”, this is the commitment our breeders have made by creating the specifications of the first Red Label of France.

St SEVER is 100% regional and has 100% South-West of France know-how: a French poultry that gives credit to its country and its beautiful region.

Breeders proud of their job!

Our breeders rely on a respectful poultry production method. Our St SEVER chickens have the time to grow: 81 days is required for them to become mature. They come from a rustic breed commonly called “bare neck” and their growth is much longer than for a classical chicken.

At St SEVER, our poultry are raised in the countryside of the South-West of France. Chickens, guinea fowls, capons, fat chickens and turkeys roam on large plains and forests that offer them shady corners. Thus, they come and go and peck in the peaceful atmosphere of a welcoming and healthy nature.

Our St SEVER poultry has a 100% plant-based feed. It is made of cereals and corn, a delicacy for our poultry, mainly produced by our producers in our region of the South-West of France. In addition, our “bare neck” chickens feed on a little alfalfa and soybean. And, as our poultry roam freely in the meadows, they enjoy what nature provides them: herbs, seeds or insects.

VOLAILLES DES LANDES

All the volailles Fermières des Landes breeding cradle is in the forest of Landes. This exceptional environment with its big spaces and its climate, with the traditional breeding method of this poultry, is part of the founding elements that enabled the volailles Fermières des Landes to achieve the first Red Label and, a few years later, the additional PGI labeling.

Our history

Pioneers of the Red Label in France, the volailles Fermières des Landes breeders are the first in France, since the 1960s, to have made the choice of a traditional poultry breeding in freedom, in strict compliance with some specifications. Thus, the volailles Fermières des Landes were the first one in France to get the Red Label as early as 1965.

Dual label

At the same time the first Red Label of France, the Volailles Fermières des Landes also have the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) label, in addition to their exclusive “Landes” stamp. This dual label and this guaranteed origin, meet strict specifications, guaranteeing free-range breeding methods, a specific breeding period and a specific feed, which make the Volailles Fermières des Landes unique in France.

Mobilized for more than 50 years around quality, the Périgord poultry chain is committed to defending and promoting Origin and Quality poultry from the Périgord on the basis of strict production and origin rules guaranteeing that their poultry are – raised in Périgord – slaughtered in Périgord – cut in Périgord.

The quality and taste specificity of poultry are forged not only by the respect of the breeding conditions the breeders imposed to themselves, but also by their traditional know-how and their skills as breeders, attentive to the behavior of their poultry and their welfare.
