“MAÏSADOUR IS A PIONEER IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND AGRICULTURAL TRANSITION” (INTERVIEW)

MAÏSADOUR GROUP
At the Salon de l’Agriculture, GS1 France, FoodPilot and Maïsadour presented an operational traceability pilot scheme designed to inform consumers about the environmental impact of food products via an augmented GS1 QR code. Didier Livio, co-founder and chairman of FoodPilot, answered our questions.

Why did you choose to work with Maïsadour?

Didier Livio : Maïsadour is a pioneering and exemplary cooperative in all matters relating to sustainable development and the agricultural and food transition. It was a no-brainer for us to give it priority within the cooperative sector!

It is also involved from the early stages of farming right through to finished products, often in an integrated way, making it easier to collect data and then analyse the impact of products across the entire supply chain. The cooperative also has a strong capacity to gather and organise the data required for this type of analysis.

Finally, this project has been able to progress rapidly thanks to the commitment and enthusiasm of the teams, who are highly motivated to better understand and improve the environmental footprint of products.

“Maïsadour is a pioneering and exemplary cooperative in all matters relating to sustainable development and the agricultural and food transition.”

Which other companies do you work with?

D.L.: We work with a range of stakeholders in the agri-food sector: agricultural cooperatives, food processors and companies committed to continuous improvement. Our collaborations span several sectors (arable farming, livestock, ingredients and processed products). More broadly, we work with all sectors that have ‘the Earth as their origin’: agriculture and agri-food, catering and hospitality, fashion and textiles, perfumes and beauty…

This study was carried out on 31 poultry and duck products from Maïsadour Gastronomie.

Do you have plans to work on other products?

D.L.: The work carried out on these initial products represents a first pilot phase. We are already working on other business lines within the Cooperative, and our aim is to gradually roll out the solution across all business lines by the end of 2026.

The aim is therefore to extend the analysis to an increasing number of products in order to gain a comprehensive overview of the environmental footprint of the various sectors, and then gradually to use this as a tool for steering Maïsadour’s AMBiTiON 2030 strategy.

“A platform such as FoodPilot enhances the performance and competitiveness of Maïsadour’s supply chains.”

About FoodPilot

FoodPilot is a SaaS* platform that helps the agri-food sector measure and manage the CSR performance of their businesses and products, from the agricultural supply chain right through to processing.

It enables the analysis of all major environmental (carbon footprint, soil, water, biodiversity), social and societal impacts, to which nutrition and animal welfare must be added.

The aim is to provide reliable data to help companies identify areas for improvement, structure their transition strategies and promote the best practices within their supply chains to their clients, consumers and, more broadly, their stakeholders.

*SaaS = Software as a Service. A software distribution model where the software is hosted by a provider and accessible via the internet, without the need for local installation.

What data is required to calculate the product’s carbon footprint?

D.L.: The calculation of a carbon footprint is based on various categories of data throughout the product’s life cycle.

This includes, in particular, agricultural practices and inputs used upstream, industrial processing methods, energy consumption, packaging, and transport. The aim is to reconstruct all the stages that contribute to greenhouse gas emissions in order to obtain the most representative picture possible of the product’s impact.

Could this initiative help to create value for the Cooperative and its members ?

D.L.: Yes, all these innovations and efforts are aimed at two objectives: accelerating the shift towards more sustainable business models and promoting the most responsible practices within the supply chains to customers.

A platform such as FoodPilot also creates value for teams and for the business: it enables the Group’s product data to be structured and utilised, speeds up analysis and decision-making, and identifies opportunities for optimisation or product innovation.

It thus helps to strengthen the performance and competitiveness of Maïsadour’s sectors, whilst making it easier to meet the growing demands of markets and customers.

These initiatives meet the markets’ growing expectations regarding environmental transparency and also enable us to anticipate regulatory changes.

Any final thoughts?

One final, crucial point: acting in this way also means rediscovering a sense of purpose in our work and taking genuine pride in what we do every day. Through our respective roles, we are all in a position to make a positive contribution to our world.
