South-West Incubation: in Aignan, egg sexing of ducklings is moving up a gear
Haut-Mauco, July 1, 2025. Sud-Ouest Accouvage, a subsidiary of the Maïsadour, Vivadour, and CAVAC cooperatives, is taking a decisive step in the evolution of incubation. Since 2024, her hatchery in Aignan (32) has been equipped with an in ovo sexing robot, capable of determining the sex of ducklings during incubation. A major innovation, the result of 10 years of research and an investment of 4.8 million euros, which combines performance, efficiency gains and progress in animal welfare. This automated system, which combines camera vision and artificial intelligence, makes it possible to identify, from the first days of incubation, the eggs carrying male ducklings, intended for the foie gras sector.
