REGENERATIVE SUNFLOWERS: A NEW VALUE-ADDED PRODUCT FOR MEMBERS

MAÏSADOUR GROUP
One year on from the launch of regenerative maize, VEGA* Maïsadour is fully fulfilling its role as a trusted intermediary between farmers and the plant industry.

Through its AMBiTiON 2030 corporate strategy, Maïsadour supports farms in the necessary agroecological transition.

Our cooperative group is therefore rolling out practical and sustainable solutions to strengthen the environmental resilience and economic viability of farms.

Within Crop Production, this transition is based on five pillars.

Improving technical performance

One year after the launch of regenerative maize, VEGA* Maïsadour, the Cooperative’s plant brand, has just rolled out a similar range for oilseed sunflowers. As with maize, the farming practices associated with this crop must be based on regenerative agriculture.

With simple and consistent specifications, the commitment to regenerative sunflower cultivation enables farmers to make technical and agronomic progress.

Any producer involved in the regenerative sunflower sector will receive a fixed premium of €20 per tonne, in recognition of their commitment to production that is:

  • low in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions;
  • traceable so that progress can be monitored (recording of practices and measurement of soil carbon);
  • that adheres to the five pillars of regenerative agriculture;
  • that contributes to carbon sequestration in the soil.

“The agriculture of the future must strike a balance between sustainability and the long-term viability of farms. This transition must be driven by performance – agronomic, economic and environmental – rather than by an accumulation of constraints.”

Arnaud Tachon, Vice-President of Maïsadour with responsibility for Crop Production, and Chairman of MAS Seeds

Expertise at the service of our members

In the face of environmental challenges and growing demand for ‘low-carbon’ raw materials, regenerative sunflower farming offers a sustainable pathway for production that incorporates carbon sequestration, reduced input requirements and enhanced biodiversity.

This new contract also presents an opportunity for farmers amid tight pricing and volatility in the cereals market.

VEGA* Maïsadour thus enables its members to secure a profitable supply chain, with a simple and accessible model, and to support them in the transition to regenerative agriculture.
